The novel/biography "Artemisia," by Alexandra Lapierre, was the inspiration for this painting. This book chronicled the life of Artemisia Gentileschi, a singular woman artist of the Renaissance. Many of the Renaissance artists - Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens, Allori, Botticelli, Palma becchio - and many others in additioin to Artemisia painted Judith. she was commissioned to do a second, less violent painting which hangs in the museum of Genoa. *Price by request.
